Arrival

Hurrah! we have arrived. The ICS-THET-PaLM project has started.

We (myself and Shirwa) have arrived in Southern Tanzania, in Mtwara we are currently observing how things are currenty set up and to establish communication links with the partners in the clinical officers training college - COTC. Three other members of the group: Faaria, Vita and Rute are due to join us in little over 24 hours then the project team will be complete.

The Campus site is fairly compact with only a small number of students, the majority of whom live on site.

our accomdation is comfortable each with a bed desk and sink with shared facilities, as there are only two of us in the hostel at the moment it is no bother sharing.

all the locals seem really nice and willing to introduce themselves to us and make sure we are ok. We got an invite to visit a revision session on saturday night, a student shared his clinical notes with the class to discuss the case. The case was a full term pregnancy with larger than expected abdomen. Having not had the exposure to obstetrics and gynaecology it was an education as to what the different causes could have been.

Yesterday we went to the Shengani Beach (the beach is shown in the picture above) with its warm waters and white sand beach it was pleasent to swim in. a beach side bar is a new addition to the beach and the locals say its the best place in town for a drink.
